Beximco workers call off highway blockade after receiving salaries

Workers of Beximco Industrial Park called off their blockade at the Kashimpur Chakraborty intersection on the Dhaka-Tangail highway last night after receiving their due salaries.
The eight-day-long agitation came to an end last night when the factory authorities disbursed the outstanding wages.
Gazipur Industrial Area’s Additional Superintendent of Police Khalilur Rahman confirmed that the workers began receiving their payments last evening. Following this, they lifted the blockade.
Efforts to reach the Beximco Industrial Park authorities for comments were unsuccessful.
According to the industrial police, the Beximco Industrial Park houses around 41,000 workers employed across its garment and ceramic factories.Workers blocked the Dhaka-Tangail highway yesterday as well, demanding their unpaid October salaries, he added.
